Five Destinations To Check Out In Key Largo

Planning an excursion to the Florida Keys? If you are, then Key Largo is one place you should make sure that you visit. Located about 60 miles from Miami, Key Largo is a little paradise with so much to offer. Its exotic allure attracts thousands of visitors every year. And there's a reason why. From the Florida National Marine Sanctuary and the African Queen Canal Cruise to the Jules Undersea Lodge, Key Largo offers excellent destinations that will make your visit worthwhile. Here's a look at five Key Largo destinations that you need to check out.

  • 1. Dolphin Cove
Dolphin Cove is situated at the northern-most point of Key Largo. The 5-acre lagoon offers guests a chance to interact and swim with dolphins. Tourists take a 30-min boat ride through the lagoon's waters where they get to learn more about dolphins and what to expect when interacting with them before they can interact with them.
  • 2. Garl's Coastal Kayaking Everglades
Garl's coastal kayaking everglades offer visitors two tours. The first involves exploring the ecosystems of the Everglades' National Park. This starts at Homestead, the park's main entrance. The other option begins at Key Largo and explores most of Florida Bay's marine environment and includes guided kayaking and snorkeling experiences.
  • 3. Jules Undersea Lodge
Jules Undersea Lodge is another great place to experience Key Largo. The lodge was once an underwater habitat and research laboratory. Tourists can reserve underwater lodges for overnight or three-hour adventures. The lodge offers a large common area and two guest rooms with all the comforts an above-water hotel can offer. 42-inch round windows provide great views of the sea floor and reef fish like the barracuda amongst others. Dive and snorkel packages are also available.
  • 4. African Queen Canal Cruise
This is a one and a half hour cruise aboard the newly-refurbished African Queen Steamboat that was once used as a shuttle for hunting parties, missionaries, and cargo. The boat departs from Key Largo's Marina Del Mar and travels down Port Largo Canals to the Atlantic Ocean before making a turn and returning to the port.
Located in the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, about 6 miles east of Key Largo, Christ of the deep is a bronze statue of Christ that symbolizes the peace of humankind despite its unusual setting. As the statue sits 24-feet underwater, visitors will have to dive, with assistance from guides, of course, to view the unique bronze sculpture and the reef surrounding it.

When visiting Key Largo, the above are some of the best destinations to consider exploring. Other places to check out include Rock Harbor, Tavernier, Spiegel Grove, Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center, and USCG Duane amongst others.
